Dr Kate Brown BA, MA, PHD

Chair since 2012, trustee since 2006 (on maternity leave)

What I do

I’m a lecturer and researcher in Social Policy and Crime at The University of York, focusing on vulnerability and also the research lead on Leeds City Council's Prostitution Strategic Partnership.

What I did before

Before my PhD , I worked in the voluntary sector for around ten years as a practitioner and manager, including as support worker for sex workers and sexually exploited young people and at a young people’s drugs service and Leeds Women’s Aid. I also undertake street outreach for Basis Sex Work Project.

A little bit about me

Having recently got into swimming, Kate has done the Great North Swim three times to raise over £3000 for Basis Yorkshire… be careful or she will rope you into joining the team for next year…
