What I do
My name is Nicky and I work on the adult team at Basis Yorkshire as a Health Support & Advocacy Worker. My role is to provide holistic health related information, advice, advocacy and support to female sex workers in Leeds South and East locality, by providing health promotion interventions and intensive support on an outreach and case management basis. This helps to reduce the barriers faced by sex workers in accessing health services.
What I did before
Prior to joining Basis, I worked as a Health Improvement Resource Officer for ten years within the public health directorate in Leeds, where I gained a vast amount of experience around health and wellbeing, especially around sexual health, CSE and substance misuse within my champion role in these areas. My role involved working with specialists and the wider workforce around looking at ways of achieving positive health outcomes and reductions in health inequalities. Previous to this role I worked in travel, retail, merchandising and finance.
A little bit about me
I also volunteered for Basis for three years previous to this, where I gained lots of experience of working with, and supporting indoor and street working women around their sexual health, safety and health needs.
