Gemma Sciré

Chief Executive Officer since October 2015

What I do

I lead the organisation, ensuring that we continue to deliver the best possible services for the women and young people we work with. My role involves work with staff and service users, partners and our Board of Trustees to promote the safety and wellbeing of the people we work with, tackling stigma and discrimination.

I am committed to challenging violence, harm and abuse of women and young people and empowering those we work with.

What I did before

I started as a volunteer, working as a receptionist and advice worker in a needle exchange for 4 years in North Yorkshire, moving to Leeds in 2001. My experience ranges from outreach work with vulnerable groups, to work within the Strategy and Commissioning team on offending and drug treatment at Leeds City Council. I led and managed criminal justice services across West and South Yorkshire and have developed services across Yorkshire and Humberside on employment and health and wellbeing services. I supported the development of the Integrated Offender Management model in Leeds and the Troubled Families programme in Wakefield. I have also delivered lectures as part of the social work programme at Leeds University. I am passionate about the voluntary sector and our ability to work with those people experiencing the most difficult and complex issues in their lives.

A little bit about me

I am a dedicated cyclist and motorcyclist with a passion for anything two wheeled! Spending time under canvas, camping, and in nature is something I love - there's nothing better than a campfire and a mug of Yorkshire tea.
