Ruth (She/her)

Child Sexual Abuse & Exploitation Specialist since September 2022

My role

I am an Early Intervention and Prevention worker with children and young people at risk of Sexual Abuse and Exploitation. I provide group and whole class sessions in schools to help educate and inform young people about healthy and unhealthy relationships, risks, consent, online safety as well as focusing on wellbeing and self esteem. I can also provide bespoke sessions to schools on a number of other topics if requested.

My background

I have worked with children and young people for the last decade, as a classroom teacher in Scotland for the past five years, and before that in several voluntary roles including running Youth Groups in Blackpool, and volunteering at a specialist mental health setting for 11-18s in Lancaster. I graduated with an MA Honours Degree from the University of Edinburgh in July 2015, and then went on to complete a PGCE. I am passionate about providing and developing trauma informed services, and delivering programmes that are tailored specifically to children and young people’s needs.

I love learning new things, and am always working on something, whether that’s cooking, dog training (I have a very stubborn little dog!) or learning a new musical instrument. I also love anything spooky – I’ll watch any terrible horror film, read lots of gothic novels and love any board game set in a haunted house!
