… and we’re off! Our Big Give 2025 campaign is now live!

This year, we are raising funds to support women who are rough sleeping (including those more hidden).

The Women’s Roughsleeping Census 2024 tells us that women who are rough sleeping are often unable to connect with mainstream street outreach services:

• 68% of women surveyed reported sleeping on the street in a 3 month period
• 46% of women surveyed reported walking all night in a 3 month period
• 29% of women surveyed reported staying with strangers or acquaintances in a 3 month period

We are able to reach out to women through gender-informed outreach; with detailed knowledge of where they are and based on a long-standing relationship with women in the area.

Your donations will go towards practical support in terms food, clothes, access to emergency accommodation as well as emotional support. We also advocate for improved access to resources and gender – informed pathways for women who are rough sleeping based on increased evidence of their experiences including through co-produced peer research and training.

For our Big Give campaign to support rough sleeping and hidden homelessness women, we produced a video in co-production with women we work with who have experienced homelessness and unstable housing.

We thought we’d give a little behind the scenes!

One of the main issues in telling stories for Basis is the need for the people we work with to remain anonymous. This was the starting point.

In producing this, we considered our ethos of empowerment and aimed to avoid any pity-inducing elements, while remaining true to the injustices of hidden homelessness. This includes music choice and the voiceover being directly informed by information collected for The Women’s Roughsleeping Census 2024.

We also wanted co-production to be a vital element of the production, including sharing our storyboard and script, asking for feedback from women who have experienced homelessness, and compensated contributions through making masks to feature in the video.
