In 2024, Basis Yorkshire, National Ugly Mugs (NUM), and POW Nottingham came together in partnership to improve outcomes for sex workers who have experienced violence. Funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, this collaboration brought together the strengths of sex worker-led and sex worker-serving organisations with more than 80 years of collective experience supporting the sex work community.
As of 31 May 2025, POW Nottingham is no longer part of the SWISVA partnership. This joint decision was made with care and in agreement with the National Lottery, following a period of operational challenges for POW. While POW focuses on stabilising and addressing these issues, NUM and Basis will continue to deliver the programme and its core aims.
We know that this change may feel unsettling, especially for those in Nottingham who have relied on POW’s services. Our shared priority is the wellbeing and safety of the community, and we are actively working to strengthen local pathways so that sex workers continue to have access to non-judgemental, trauma-informed support throughout this transition.
We recognise and value POW’s contribution to the community, and extend our appreciation for the work they have delivered over many years. Our decision to continue the project without them reflects a commitment to consistency, clarity, and continuity for those we serve.
If you are based in Nottingham and would like support or information about available services; a leaflet will shortly be distributed about other support available.
