Basis Yorkshire are delighted to welcome Gemma Sciré into the role of Chief Executive Officer. Gemma has extensive experience across the voluntary and statutory sector and has worked across Leeds, West Yorkshire and Humber. Her experience ranges from outreach work with vulnerable groups, to work within the Strategy and Commissioning team on offending and drug treatment at Leeds City Council, demonstrating a career long commitment to empowering those from marginalised groups. Gemma supported the development of the Integrated Offender Management model in Leeds and gained an award for partnership working in recognition of achievements in enabling better interagency working to support offenders. Gemma has also held Safeguarding portfolio in previous roles, working with partners to develop the ‘Think Family’ protocol for Leeds Safeguarding Children’s Board and supporting the social work programme at Leeds University.
Her experience in mental health services, substance misuse, children and families, housing and business development will allow Basis to further develop their work at an exciting time for the organisation, as the they re-brand and extend services to meet the needs of our client groups. Gemma says, ‘I feel very proud to be leading Basis into the future, building on the fantastic success that the organisation has achieved in enabling progressive policy changes and ensuring that the focus stays on the safety, life chances and rights of the people we work with. I know that our committed and highly professional team will continue to develop work with our partners and I look forward to contributing to the development of our work in Leeds and Yorkshire.’
Gemma has a first class honours degree in Sociology and English and a post graduate certificate in Social Policy. She is also an avid cyclist and motorcyclist.
