We support young people up to 18 years old (or 24, depending on need) of all genders who are victim-survivors of sexual abuse in all its forms, including young people who are being sexually exploited or at risk thereof.
Our advice is confidential, free and we work on a voluntary basis, meaning that it’s your choice whether you want to start or continue support from Basis.
Since 1997 we have helped young people to stop this happening to them through creating safety, promoting empowerment and ending stigma about sexual abuse– with our support they have learned to keep themselves safe.
Your support from Basis is tailored to your need, everyone’s support will look different. Some topics that might be covered in sessions with your Basis worker include:
- Identifying and understanding healthy/ unhealthy relationships
- Keeping yourself safer online
- Safety planning for if you go missing
- Supporting you to stay in school
Anyone can make a referral by sending a referral form to: ypreferrals@basisyorkshire.org.uk or call our office on 0113 243 0036 to speak to a worker about referring.
Here is what some of the young people have told us:
“Thank you so much, you are great at your job, and have helped me more than you will ever know.”
“Here is where I felt safe and happy. I never thought I’d be here today and I didn’t think I’d ever be right again 🙂 I can now look at a story of someone and think let me help you get through.”
“It’s a life changing charity that saves lives and makes them better and helps you understand. Don’t ever think they will judge you! They bring out a better you.”
